Rails, Common Moorhen

These little birds were very shy and I saw their rear ends more than their lovely beaks!

Only fun to photograph in the sunlight, these little guys run fast when they see a camera. I only had luck a couple of days. These shots of the males were taken in the cold, sunny days. They are in the large family of Rails. You can see that on their chicken-like feet.

The females aren’t as colorful with brown beaks.

On the one warm really sunny day, this male cooperated by walking along the lake instead of going right into it. I got a nice shot of his white tail feathers and then the profile shots.
