Chestnut Mandible Toucans courting on the Osa Penninsula
One is always thrilled to see these wonderful birds. Sometimes they sit still long enough to get a nice shot of them. That can make for a thrilling birding day. But on this occasion I watched two of them mutually grooming, sharing tiny bits of food, and clearly enjoying being close to one another. I was quite far away to start but eventually risked stopping taking pictures in order to get closer. In total, they were up there together for fourteen minutes giving a couple of us a wonderful opportunity to observe them! And now you can too!
Shooting, at a long distance, one beautiful toucan when a second one arrived.

Having moved closer, I watched until one of them flew away. (I’m pretty sure they reunited elsewhere!)
