The female Northern Harrier

Not a summer bird around these parts, what fun to see them back this week, although it’s possible that there is just this one so far in the farmland I frequently visit. With its owl-like face and lustrous colors and its unusual flight patterns (although just cruising in these shots) it is so fun to watch and photograph. These pictures were taken late day where the hawk was just high enough to catch the last of the sunlight in the darkening field.
