I spent 45 minutes this evening following a couple of Green Herons around the marsh, just enjoying their shenanigans. Life is earnest for them; they are such intense little birds, much smaller than the ducks, but they can stretch out their necks when hunting and their wings in flight and appear so much larger. I love watching them change their appearance with every change of their gaze. Spotting them is half the fun since they seem to just disappear in the water’s vegetation until they take flight. This one put on a good show!
